Moving furniture production out of China.

Top Systems moves furniture programs from China to established factories in Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. We match each product to the country that suits it, re-sample and re-approve it with the new factory, control first production and coordinate FOB shipment, managed on the ground. We don’t quote tariff rates or make origin determinations; those stay with your customs professional.

Before You Move

We won’t sell you a tariff number

Buyers usually move for two reasons: one country holding an entire program, and duty exposure that keeps changing. Which measures apply to your product, and what they cost, depends on its classification, origin and timing, and that is for a customs professional to confirm. Whether a move is worth it is covered in two guides: when China plus one reduces risk and evaluating US tariff changes. This page covers what happens once you decide to move.

Which country fits your product

The country is chosen by product category, not by which country is popular this year. See matching product category to country for the detail.

How a move from China works

A new factory is a new relationship, not a copy of the old one. Each step re-establishes what the China factory did without writing it down.

  1. Review what you have

Drawings, BOM, specifications and a current China-made sample as the reference product.

  2. Match the country and factory

Factories identified by product category, quality requirement and price range, and visited in person before we recommend them.

  3. Re-develop and re-sample

Design modification for the new factory’s capability, prototype review, pre-production sample and an approved golden sample. See the three sample stages.

  4. Price on landed cost

Pricing negotiated with the factory and compared on landed cost, not on the factory quote alone.

  5. Control first production

First-article inspection, then during-production and pre-shipment inspection against the approved sample.

  6. FOB handoff with records

Loading supervision, packing lists, loading photographs and certificate-of-origin support. Your freight forwarder takes it from the port.

Where transfers go wrong, and how we control them

Most failed moves treat the new factory as a drop-in replacement and find the differences during the first production run, the most expensive time to find them.

Specification drift

What never made it onto the drawing

A long-running China factory carries knowledge that isn’t in the specification. We build the full spec from your drawings and the China sample, then check the first articles against both.

Materials & finish

Different country, different materials

The timber, panels and finishes available locally may differ from what was used in China. We confirm materials and approve samples before production, not after.

Components & origin

Parts still coming from China

Hardware or components sourced from China affect what your origin records show. We review components and keep BOM and sourcing records. The origin determination stays with your customs professional. See origin records.

Capacity & timeline

A new factory’s real capacity

What a factory says it can produce and what it can hold for your volume aren’t always the same. We visit, verify capacity and keep you updated on the timeline.

Packaging & documents

The retail paperwork resets too

New cartons, labels and compliance files have to be re-established for your retail channel. We verify packaging and support the shipping and compliance documentation.

Minimum order quantities

Two ways to work with us

Buy through Top Systems

You purchase through Top Systems on one invoice. We manage the selected factory and pay it; you deal with one party. Fees agreed in writing, no upfront retainers.

Keep your own factory PO

You place the PO directly with the new factory and use Top Systems as your agent on the ground for factory management, QC and shipping coordination.

Common questions

Will moving production out of China avoid tariffs?

Not automatically. Tariff treatment depends on a product’s classification, the measures in force, its country of origin and the effective dates, and country of origin is a case-by-case determination under US customs rules, not simply where the goods ship from. That question belongs with your customs professional; Top Systems is not a customs broker. What we do is place production in genuine Malaysian, Vietnamese or Indonesian factories and keep the production, component and inspection records your adviser may ask for.

Can you work from our existing China-made product?

Yes. A current sample, drawings, a BOM or a specification can be the reference. The product is then re-developed with the new factory, including design modification for its capability and prototype and sample approval, because a new factory is a new quality baseline, not a copy of the old one.

How long does a transfer take?

It depends on the product, the number of sampling rounds and the factory’s capacity. We give a project timeline after reviewing your product rather than quoting a general figure.

What are the minimum order quantities?

Per style/SKU: casegoods 100, dining tables and tabletops 100, chairs 250, flat-pack 200, and outdoor 100 sets. Outdoor is produced in Vietnam.
